On 20 November, PhD candidate Hu Ling successfully defended her PhD thesis: “Rhododendron taxonomy and diversity of ex situ collections for conservation: (subsection) Maddenia as a case study” and is now Dr Hu. Outstanding!
The Trust has helped fund a portion of Ling’s study, and her work has used a large amount of source material from Pukeiti and other gardens around the country where the NZ Rhododendron Ex Situ Conservation Project team has been working for some years. Those members of the Trust who have been involved with Ling over the last few years, along with two of her three supervisors — Dr Marion MacKay and Dr Susan Gardiner, both of whom sit on the Pukeiti board — are absolutely thrilled for her.
Ling herself is over the moon and her parents in China are immensely proud of their daughter. And so they should be. Well done, Ling, for your incredible achievement.
